Germany's consumer prices rose slightly in May, reversing a similar size decline in the previous month, preliminary data from Destatis showed Monday.
The consumer price index edged up 0.1 percent year-on-year following a 0.1 percent fall in April. The increase was in line with economists' expectations.
Compared to the previous month, the CPI climbed 0.3 percent, matching economists' expectations. In April, prices fell 0.4 percent.
The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices was unchanged annually in May after a 0.3 percent fall in April. Economists were looking for a 0.3 percent gain.
The EU measure of inflation rose 0.4 percent from the previous month, defying economists' expectations for a 0.1 percent drop. In April, prices declined 0.5 percent.
Destatis is set to publish final CPI and HICP figures for May on June 10.
