A video that shows a SeaWorld-owned killer whale deliberately beaching itself after a show at a Loro Parque waterpark in Tenerife, Spain has led to another widespread cry to free orcas.

The disturbing video clip shows the orca called Morgan lying on a concrete slab after jumping out of the water after a show. The killer whale remained motionless for around 10 minutes, according to eyewitnesses.

Although wild orcas occasionally beach themselves for a while during hunting, they always remain in motion and even swim while they are sleeping.

The video footage has raised calls for killer whales to be released back into the wild.

Ric O'Barry of Dolphin Project said: "While we cannot explain the reason for her behavior, the juxtaposition of a previously-wild orca against the stark backdrop of the park's performance area is unsettling, to say the least."

The Dolphin Project is a group of activists that are campaigning against the whale and dolphin captivity industry.
