Japan's tertiary activity index increased at a faster-than-expected pace in June, after falling in the previous month, figures from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry showed Wednesday.
The tertiary activity index rose a seasonally adjusted 0.8 percent from May, when it dropped by 1.2 percent. Economists had expected a 0.3 percent gain for the month.
Among the individual components of the survey, activity was up for living and amusement-related services, medical, health care and welfare, wholesale trade, transport and postal activities and business-related services.
Meanwhile, activity was down for information and communications, electricity, gas, hear supply and water, retail trade, finance and insurance.
On a yearly basis, the tertiary activity index rose 0.4 percent in June, following a 0.3 percent increase in the preceding month.
