Japan's Leading Index Drops In July

Japan's leading index dropped in July after recovering last month, survey results from the Cabinet Office revealed Wednesday.

The leading index, which measures the future economic activity, fell to 100 in July from revised 100.7 in June. The expected reading was 98.6.

The coincident index that reflects the current economic activity, rose to 112.8 from revised 112.1 a month ago. A similar high value was last seen in November 2015. The score was also above the expected level of 111.7.

Meanwhile, the lagging index slid to 112.9 from 113.9 in the previous month.
