Turkey Jobless Rate At 4-Month High

Turkey's unemployment rate increased for the second straight month in June to the highest level in four months, figures from the Turkish Statistical Institute showed Monday.

The jobless rate rise to an unadjusted 10.2 percent in June from 9.4 percent in the previous month. In the corresponding month last year, the unemployment rate was 9.6 percent.

Moreover, the latest unemployment rate was the strongest since February, when it marked 10.9 percent.

The number of unemployed people grew to 3.13 million in June from 2.90 million in May. A year ago, the jobless figure totaled 2.88 million.

The labor force participation rate came in at 52.4 percent in June, down slightly from 52.5 percent in the prior month.

The seasonally adjusted jobless rate also climbed to 10.9 percent in June from 10.3 percent a month earlier.
