The manufacturing sector in Australia contracted for the second straight month in September, albeit marginally, the latest survey from the Australian Industry Group revealed on Monday.
The Performance of Manufacturing Index, or PMI, climbed to 49.8 in September from 46.9 in the previous month. However, any reading below 50 suggests contraction in the sector.
Among components, production, employment, sales sub-index all rose in September, while new orders declined sharply.
