New Zealand Net Migration Rises In October

New Zealand's net migration increased in October from a year ago, driven by more migrant arrivals, figures from Statistics New Zealand showed Tuesday.

In the year to October 31, the country recorded a net migration of 70,300, surpassing the previous annual peak of 70,000 in September.

Migrant arrivals numbered 126,100 in the October 2016 year, setting a new annual record. Migrant departures were 55,800.

Visitor arrivals to the country set a new record of 260,200 in October, up by 30,900 from a year ago. Overseas trips by New Zealand residents also made a record of 231,00, up 7.0 percent from last year.
