Greece's economy expanded at the fastest pace in nearly nine years, revised data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority showed Tuesday.

Gross domestic product grew a seasonally- and calendar-adjusted 1.8 percent year-on-year following a 0.5 percent decline in the second quarter. The economy expanded for the first time in three quarters.

The flash estimate released on November 14 showed 1.5 percent annual growth for the third quarter.

Quarterly growth was revised up to 0.8 percent from 0.5 percent flash estimate. The economy expanded for the second straight quarter and at the fastest pace since the final three months of last year. In the second quarter, GDP grew 0.4 percent.

On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, GDP rose 1.6 percent year-on-year versus 1.2 percent estimated earlier. In the second quarter, the economy shrunk 0.4 percent.
