The construction index in Australia continued to contract in January, albeit at a slower pace, the latest survey from the Australian Industry Group showed on Tuesday with a Performance of Construction Index score of 47.7.
That's up from 47.0 in December, although it remains well below the boom-or-bust line of 50 that separates expansion from contraction.
Individually, employment and supplier deliveries contracted at a slower pace, while the contraction accelerated for activity and new orders.
House building stabilized, while apartment building and commercial construction remained soft.
