Synopsys Inc. (SNPS) reported first quarter EPS of $0.94 after the bell Wednesday, up from $0.68 in the previous year. The consensus estimate was for EPS of $0.78. The stock is now up 4.24 on 26K shares.
Synopsys climbed until mid-morning Wednesday, before settling into a range. The stock closed up by 0.42 at $66.26. Synopsys has been on an upward trend since early January and set a new high for the year.

In Asia, the Bank of Japan drew attention for its policy moves, while data out of China threw some light on the state of the economy.
