Lionel Richie is set to receive an honorary degree from the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He is one of several music legends set to receive the honor, including Lucinda Williams, Todd Rundgren, Shin Joong Hyun and The Recording Academy president/CEO Neil Portnow.
The honorary degrees will go out during the Berklee commencement event on May 13. Berklee president Roger H. Brown will do the honors at the Agganis Arena at Boston University. Richie also made news this month when he confirmed that he will postpone his current slate of tour dates due to a recent knee injury. He broke the news in an official statement noting that his lengthy touring career may have caught up with his body this time.
"When you have been performing as long as I have it takes a toll on your body," Richie said in a statement. "Unfortunately, my recovery from a knee procedure will not have me 100 percent ready to start the tour next month. I don't want to disappoint my fans, and I look forward to being back on stage so we can all be 'Dancing on the Ceiling' together again."
