Turkey's economy grew robustly in the final three months of the year, underpinned by growth in private consumption to exceed expectations, thus recovering from a slump in the previous quarter, data from the statistical office Turkstat showed Friday.
Gross domestic product grew 3.5 percent year-on-year after a revised 1.3 percent drop in the third quarter. Economists had forecast 1.9 percent growth.
Household consumption rebounded with 5.7 percent growth after a decline in the previous quarter. Exports also recovered and imports increased at a faster pace.
The economy expanded 2.9 percent for the full year 2016, which was slower than the 6.1 growth in 2015.
