Eli Lilly And Co. Announces 18% Increase In Q1 Profit

Eli Lilly And Co. (LLY) reported a profit for its first quarter that climbed compared to the same period last year.

The company said its bottom line totaled $1.04 billion, or $0.98 per share. This was up from $882.3 million, or $0.83 per share, in last year's first quarter.

Analysts had expected the company to earn $0.96 per share, according figures compiled by Thomson Reuters. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

The company said revenue for the quarter rose 7.4% to $5.23 billion. This was up from $4.87 billion last year.
