Food prices in New Zealand eased a seasonally adjusted 0.2 percent on month in April, Statistics New Zealand said on Thursday.
That follows the 0.3 percent decline in March.
"The cost of throwing a party fell in April, with lower prices for grocery foods such as potato chips, chocolate biscuits, and crackers," consumer prices manager Matthew Haigh said. "Other party favorites, such as soft drinks, grapes, and carrots, also fell in price."
Fruit and vegetable prices rose 4.2 percent on month, while meat, poultry, and fish prices fell 1.7 percent.
Grocery food prices fell 2.1 percent, while non-alcoholic beverage prices dropped 2.7 percent and restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices added 0.1 percent.
On a yearly basis, food prices added 0.2 percent after climbing 1.3 percent in the previous month.
Fruit and vegetable prices climbed 3.0 percent on year, while meat, poultry, and fish prices shed 1.5 percent.
Grocery food prices fell 0.2 percent, while non-alcoholic beverage prices dropped 3.1 percent and restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices jumped 1.9 percent.
