A United Airlines flight traveling from Newark, New York to New Delhi, India, with 266 passengers on board was diverted to London's Heathrow airport due to a medical issue on board.
"Our team at London Heathrow Airport is providing assistance to customers of United flight 82 (New York/ Newark to Delhi) which diverted to London Heathrow Airport because of a medical issue on board. The flight now has been canceled due to the crew reaching their maximum duty time," the airlines said.
The Boeing B 777-200 ER landed at 12.06 pm local time at the Heathrow airport.
United Airlines is making arrangements including hotel accommodation and arrangements for next day's journey for the passengers. The company has issued an apology to customers for the inconvenience caused.
"3 hours after the sharp turn over the North Sea, flight #UA82 landed safely at Heathrow Airport. Reason why Heathrow was selected as diversion airport can be crew or maintenance availability, and better possibilities to handle passengers," tweeted Flight Radar, a internet-based service that tracks real-time aircraft flight information.
