Longtime drummer for George Strait, Michael A. Kenney passed away in a road accident on Friday, August 31.
The accident report suggests that the drummer's car collided with a tractor-trailer as he was merging onto another lane on a Nashville highway.
Strait expressed his deep condolences for his friend and colleague in a long post on social media.
"It's going to be very strange not being able to look over and see him there in his spot on stage and very emotional as well I'm sure for all of us and also his fans...a part of us is gone forever. We all loved Mike and will miss him terribly," wrote Strait "Our hearts and prayers are with his family. The Lord has him now. Rest In Peace my friend."
Kennedy worked with a number of artists in his career, including Darryl Worley, who said: "If I could say one thing about my friend Mike Kennedy, it would be that he loved to help others."
