Beck stepped on to the stage unannounced and performed a couple of songs with Phoenix during the second night of the French band's Fonda Theater residency in Los Angeles on Saturday.
Before beginning Sea Change's "Lost Cause," Thomas Mars said, "Every night we played in L.A. has to be special. I think there's almost one L.A. reference in every single song that we have. So this is one of your anthems."
Beck joined soon thereafter, trading off on lead vocals, with Mars. He then led the band on an abbreviated rendition of Odelay's "Jackass."
Both Beck, whose most recent album was released last year, and Phoenix are set to play in Memphis, Tennessee's Mempho Music Festival on October 6.
