Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (BRK.A, BRK.B) announced Tuesday morning that it agreed to acquire the remaining 77.4% of outstanding shares of Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNI) that it does not currently own, for $100 per share. The transaction is valued at approximately $44 billion. Burlington Northern Santa Fe gapped open sharply higher Tuesday, but moved in a narrow range throughout the session. The stock finished up by $20.93 at $97.00 on the highest volume of the year. Shares jumped to a new high for the year.
