Gainers:

Norfolk Southern Corp. (NSC) is up 5 percent to $72.90 based on the news that it has reported higher earnings for its third quarter. Both earnings per share and revenue were above Wall Street view.

Akamai Technologies, Inc. (AKAM) is up 13 percent to $27.00 as its third quarter profit improved from the previous year. Normalized earnings per share and revenue were above analysts' estimates.

Decliners:

Visa Inc. (V) is down more than 1 percent to $90.50 as its fourth quarter revenue was below consensus. The company's profit improved 14 percent from the previous year. Earnings per share were above analysts' expectations.

McDermott International Inc. (MDR) is sliding 18 percent to $12.00 as it foresee third quarter revenues and earnings well below consensus. The company said it is disappointed with the operating and net income expected for the quarter.

Shutterfly, Inc. (SFLY) is falling 9 percent to $42.40 as its third quarter loss widened from the previous year. Net revenues increased 56 percent year-over-year.

BMC Software Inc. (BMC) is sliding 7 percent to $35.85 as its third quarter profit fell from the year-ago quarter. The company lowered full-year non-GAAP earnings per share and also revenue growth forecast.

Hanger Orthopedic Group Inc. (HGR) is down more than 15 percent to $17.90 as it forecast fourth quarter and full-year earnings per share and revenues below consensus. The company's third quarter profit improved from the previous year. Adjusted earnings per share for the quarter were above estimate, while revenue was below consensus.

TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc. (TQNT) is down 18 percent to $5.88 as it forecast fourth quarter revenues and adjusted earnings per share below Street view.
