Saturday, Incyte Corp.(INCY),a drug discovery and development company, said results from Phase IIb trial showed that treatment with once-daily doses of INCB13739 significantly improved glycemic control, insulin sensitivity and total-cholesterol levels in type 2 diabetes.
INCB13739 is an orally bioavailable inhibitor of the enzyme 11beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (11beta-HSD1).
The Wilmington, Delaware-based company noted that INCB13739 has provided the first proof-of-concept for the potential therapeutic utility of 11beta-HSD1 inhibition in type 2 diabetes by demonstrating improvements on glycemic control and indirect measurements of insulin sensitivity. Further studies are warranted to better characterize this new and interesting class of drugs. The multicenter double-blind, placebo-controlled study involved over 300 patients with type 2 diabetes.
INCY closed Friday's trading at $3.84, up $0.36 or 10.34%, on a volume of about 3.89 million shares. In the after hours, the share traded at $3.89, further gaining $0.05 or 1.30%.
