Health and life insurance service provider Aflac Inc. (AFL) is scheduled to release its fourth-quarter results after the market closes Tuesday, with Street analysts forecasting earnings of $1.15 per share on revenue of $4.99 billion.

While announcing third-quarter results, the company said if the yen averages 90 - 95 to the dollar in the fourth quarter, the company would expect reported operating earnings in the range of $1.08 - $1.16 per share in the fourth quarter.

Further, the company expects to achieve a 13% - 15% growth in operating earnings per share, excluding the impact of foreign currency, for the full-year 2009. Aflac forecasts full-year operating earnings in a range of $4.75 - $4.83 per share. The Street estimates earnings of $4.83 per share for the year 2009.

Aflac U.S. new annualized premium sales are estimated to fall short of annual objective of flat to 5% growth in 2009. Aflac Japan is expected to achieve its annual objective of flat sales to a 5% increase for the full year 2009. Owing to the tremendous consumer response to its new products and continued growth through the bank channel, the company also believes it could extend Aflac Japan's sales momentum into 2010.

For 2010, Aflac continues to expect a 9% - 12% rise in operating earnings per share before the impact of the yen/dollar exchange rate. The Street projects earnings of $5.29 per share for the year 2010.

For the third quarter, the insurance firm reported higher profit totaling $363 million or $0.77 per share, compared to $100 million or $0.21 per share in the year-ago quarter, aided by a 22.6% growth in revenues reflecting a stronger yen/dollar exchange rate. Total revenues rose to $4.5 billion from $3.7 billion in the previous year.

Among other players in the field, Unum Group (UNM) is also set to release its forth-quarter results Tuesday, with Wall Street analysts having a consensus earnings estimate of $0.64 per share on revenues of $2.56 billion. Earlier in November 2009, Unum said it continues to expect operating earnings of $2.50 - $2.60 per share.

Another peer, Assurant Inc. (AIZ) is slated to issue forth its fourth-quarter results on February 3. Analysts are looking for earnings of $1.01 per share on revenue of $2.12 billion for the quarter.

Aflac shares, which have been trading between $10.83 and $52.16 in the past 52 weeks, closed Monday's trading session at $49.18, up 75 cents or 1.55%, on a volume of 3.44 million shares.
