Franz Ferdinand turned in a raucous set Saturday night at the Virgin Festival in Toronto, ripping through their large library of dance rock anthems.

Opening with "The Dark Of The Matinee," from their 2004 self-titled debut album, the band never let up on the energy, whipping through such songs as "Take Me Out," "Michael," and "No You Girls," which was featured on the band's most recent release, Tonight: Franz Ferdinand.

Lead singer Alex Kapranos spoke to the crowd minimally, stopping only briefly to tell them that the smell of burning flesh was in the air and periodically yelling, "Are you still there, Toronto?" to elicit cheers from the excited fans as he jumped around the stage.

Meanwhile, Kapranos' bandmates kept the music loud and intense, as bassist Robert Hardy provided a rumbling low end to compliment Paul Thomson's frantic drumbeats. Guitarist Nicolas McCarthy even joined in on Kapranos' theatrics, engaging him in a guitar duel.
