China's hydro-power generation capacity is targeted to reach 300 million kilowatts in 2020, according to Chen Lei, China's Water Resources Minister. Lei said hydro-power will play an important role in China's energy strategy for the future. Indicating the potential as huge, Lei said water resources technology has developed at a very high pace in recent years, with some of the technologies catching up with advanced levels in the world.
Lei credited China with sufficient water resources reserves compared to other countries, with an installed capacity of 172 million kw end 2008, indicated as one of the biggest in the world.
