Tuesday, provider of mail processing equipment and integrated mail solutions Pitney Bowes Inc. (PBI), said it filed a patent infringement lawsuit against privately-held Zumbox in the California Central District Court.
Stamford, Connecticut-based Pitney alleged that Westlake Village, California-based Zumbox's "paperless mail" service for consumers infringed certain patents.
Pitney Bowles lawsuit is part of its effort to protect and defend its intellectual property rights and seeks, among other things, to enjoin Zumbox from further infringement.
Pitney Bowes has been active in the acquisition, development and deployment of multi-channel messaging solutions, including those based on the platforms acquired from Alysis in 2000, Group 1 Software in 2004, and Emtex in 2006.
The company indicated infusing more than $200 million in research and development in 2008, with a sizeable amount set apart for software products. The company's online technologies are already used by companies worldwide to communicate with their customers quickly and effectively.
PBI is currently trading at $25.17, down $0.11 or 0.44%, on a volume of 0.48 million shares on the NYSE.
