Webster Financial Q3 Net Loss Widens - Quick Facts

Webster Financial Corp. (WBS) reported a wider third-quarter net loss of $19.25 million compared with $16.54 million in the previous year. Net loss available to common shareholders for the latest quarter also widened to $26.1 million from $21.75 million in the last year.

Loss per share for the recent quarter narrowed to $0.39 from $0.42 in the comparable period and loss per share from continuing operations also reduced to $0.39 from $0.41 in 2008. On average, 11 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected loss per share of $0.25 for the quarter. Analysts' estimate typically excludes one-time items.

Net interest income for the third quarter declined to $126.67 million from $129.18 million in the year earlier period. Total non-interest income soared to $44.16 million from $15.75 million in the 2008 period. Seven analysts estimated revenues of $173.78 million for the quarter.
