Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi says Arab nations and even the Palestinians should be allowed by the international community to possess nuclear weapons as long as Israel's nuclear ambitions are accepted.
Kadhafi told a British television news channel that if Israel, widely considered to be the Middle East's sole but unacknowledged nuclear state, can have the nuclear weapons and nuclear capabilities, then it is the right of its Arab neighbors to seek the same.
The Egyptians, the Syrians, the Saudis and even the Palestinians should have nuclear weapons because their counterparts, or their opponents, have nuclear capabilities, he said. To avoid such a situation arising, we need to disarm the Israelis of their nuclear weapons and capabilities, he added.
The Libyan leader also said he would oppose Iran acquiring nuclear weapons if it acknowledges pursuit of such a goal, but noted Tehran's has consistently insisted that its nuclear program is peaceful for generating electricity, which the Western powers dispute.
