Ball Corp. (BLL) reported third quarter net earnings of $103.7 million, or $1.09 per diluted share, compared to earnings of $101.9 million, or $1.05 per diluted share last year.
On a comparable basis, Ball reported diluted earnings per share of $1.24 in the third quarter, compared to $1.13 in the third quarter of 2008.
On average, 11 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report $1.17 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude the special items.
Sales for the quarter was $1.97 billion, down from $2.01 billion in the comparable quarter last year. Analysts expected the company to report revenue of $1.96 billion.
