(RTTNews) - At least 35 people, including soldiers, women and children, were killed and more than 40 wounded in a massive suicide-bomb-blast that rocked the Pakistani garrison city of Rawalpindi Monday.
A suicide bomber on a motorbike detonated his explosives targeting soldiers encashing their salaries at a bank in a busy commercial area near the army headquarters, media reports said.
No one claimed immediate responsibility for the attack. However, Taliban, which vowed to avenge the ongoing military assault on its strongholds in the semi-autonomous tribal region of South Waziristan, is strongly suspected.
Charred bodies, including those of women, turned the scene horrible, reports quoting witnesses said.
The blast took place in a car park behind the four-star Shalimar hotel, BBC reported quoting the city police chief.
The blast site was half a kilometer away from Pakistan's army headquarters, which highlights how susceptible the strategically-important region is to terrorist strikes.
