Papa John's Intl. Q3 Profit Rises; Lifts FY09 Guidance - Quick Facts

Papa John's International Inc. (PZZA) posted third quarter net income of $11.7 million or $0.42 per share, compared to $7.7 million or $0.28 per share in the prior year period. Net income, excluding items for the quarter was $8.5 million or $0.30 per share, compared to $7.9 million or $0.28 per share in the preceding year period.

On average, five analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.26 per share. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Revenues for the period were $263.9 million, compared to $280.0 million in the comparable period last year. Three Wall Street analysts expected revenues of $270.80 million.

Looking forward, for the fiscal year 2009, the company increased its previously announced earnings per share guidance to a range of $1.42 to $1.46 from a range of $1.38 to $1.44. Street analysts expect earnings of $1.48 per share.

The company lifted its domestic system-wide comparable sales guidance to a range of negative 0.25% to positive 0.25% from its previous forecast in the range of negative 1% to flat.
