(RTTNews) - Authorities in Pakistan's financial capital Karachi said Tuesday 16 persons, including women and children were killed when a passenger train rammed into a freight train.
The accident occurred at Juma Goth, in the suburbs of Karachi, when the driver of the Karachi-bound Allama Iqbal express ignored a traffic signal and collided with the freight train. Most of the casualties had been traveling in the train, which was coming from the eastern city of Lahore.
A doctor at the Jinnah Hospital confirmed receiving 16 dead bodies including those of three children and three women besides 45 persons were admitted with injuries.
Police and rescue workers said they were still working to retrieve bodies and survivors from the wreckage of the passenger train hours after the crash.
