Michael Jackson Takes Home 4 AMAs

Though he lost out on the night's top honor, Michael Jackson was one of the big winners at Sunday's American Music Awards.

The late singer, who passed away in June, won four awards - favorite male soul/R&B artist and favorite male pop/rock artist, as well as two awards for his Number Ones record, favorite soul/R&B album and favorite pop/rock album.

Jackson lost out to Taylor Swift for artist of the year, the AMA's top honor.

Janet Jackson opened the night with a medley of some of her hits, including "Control" and "What Have You Done For Me Lately."

The night also saw a performance of "Empire State of Mind" by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys and a solo performance by Keys of her "Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart."

The Black Eyed Peas were named the favorite pop/rock band and favorite soul/R&B band. Jay-Z also nabbed two awards, favorite male rap/hip-hop artist and favorite rap/hip-hop album for The Blueprint 3. Beyoncé took home the honor for favorite female soul/R&B artist.
