Iran's state news agency, said Sunday that Russian Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko met Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and agreed for mutual cooperation between the two countries.
Shmatko is on a visit to Tehran to attend the eighth meeting of Iran-Russian Joint Economic Commission.
Referring to global economic meltdown, Shmatko described existing ties between Tehran and Moscow as excellent Irna, Iran's state news agency said. Further, Irna quoted Shmatko commenting on the economic meltdown "We are determined to continue such cooperation between the two countries."
Irna reported that Shmatko added, "There are no obstacles on the way of expansion of mutual cooperation in various fields."
Both the sides expressed that the meeting was satisfactory and would help to bolster mutual cooperation in transportation, telecommunication, energy, commerce, economy and banking sectors.
Commenting on the meeting, Mottaki said that it was a very good opportunity for both the countries to further exchange views and mutual cooperation in various fields.
Iran and Russia play a very significant role in regional and global developments, Mottaki said.
Irna reported that commenting on the meeting the visiting Russian minister, Shmatko said "holding of such meetings will serve to expand mutual cooperation".
In a separate development, prior to this report, Irna or Islamic Republic News Agency had said that Iranian government approved 10 new uranium enrichment plants to produce nuclear fuel for nuclear power plants.
A few days ago, the International Atomic Energy Agency or IAEA, the UN nuclear watchdog had censured Iran over its nuclear programme and called on Tehran to halt the construction of a newly revealed enrichment facility near the city of Qom.
