Carrie Underwood kicked off her holiday season last night as the host of Fox's All Star Holiday Special.
The special featured guest appearances by Dolly Parton, David Cook, Kristin Chenoweth, Christina Applegate and Brad Paisley.
According to Underwood, the show was written as a "behind the scenes look" into her real life. Not only did the American Idol winner perform, but she also showed off her comedic skills with pre-recorded scenes and sketches.
"As you'll see on this special, it's not just about her singing on this," the show's producer Nigel Lythgoe said. "It's about her comedy timing and everything else. She just handles herself as if she's been in the business for 20 years and not the four or five she's been in now."
In one such comedic scene, Underwood brought in her actual sister and tried to arrange a date with a Johnny Depp impersonator.
"I love the fact that her real sister and her mom take part in the show and the very fact that Carrie is up there to be self-deprecating," Lythgoe added. "You don't get that very often nowadays and it's a beautiful quality, one that I hope she never loses."
