Never before seen footage of Pink Floyd has been uncovered and made into a private collection at the British Film Institute in the U.K.

The collection includes two episodes from the BBC's Top of the Pops program, which feature rare vocal performances by Syd Barrett. The footage, which includes a performance of "See Emily Play," was originally recorded in July 1967 and will be aired for the first time ever at the British Film Institute's Missing and Presumed Wiped event on January 9.

"This is an enormously significant discovery that will generate huge interest amongst music fans all over the world, even though the surviving material is in poor condition," said Steve Bryant, curator of the British Film Institute.

"Footage of Pink Floyd from this era is extremely rare," he noted, adding that he and his team are "thrilled to have been given the opportunity to restore this recording, as much as has been possible, so that people can get a sense of this legendary appearance."
