Lady Gaga Tones It Down For The Queen (Sort Of)

Lady Gaga upheld her reputation as the world's foremost shock-pop starlet this week at the Royal Variety Performance in Blackpool, England.

Gaga donned an oversized Elizabethan gown cut from bright red leather for the show, with dark red sparkled makeup encircling both of her eyes. The singer, who later enjoyed a rare audience with Queen Elizabeth II, was reportedly asked to tone down her often racy and sometimes violent show.

"I wanted to do the suicide scene I did at the MTV Awards but I was told it wouldn't be appropriate," Gaga said of the scene in which she stabbed herself. "And not only has that been vetoed, but I have had to tone down my act generally."

"But all of that doesn't matter because I'm a massive fan of the Queen -I was so excited and have even been practicing my curtsy," she added. "When I first came up with what I was doing, I said 'Oh my f***ing God. It's fabulous, I hope the Queen likes it.'"

Gaga will perform in Vancouver, British Columbia, this week as part of her Monster Ball tour.
