Landstar System Names CEO Henry Gerkens Chairman - Update

Trucking company Landstar System, Inc. (LSTR), said Friday that its board has appointed President and Chief Executive Officer Henry Gerkens to the additional post of Chairman of the Board effective from January 4, 2010.

The Jacksonville, Florida-based company's presently serving Chairman Jeffrey Crowe will remain on the company's board and has been designated as Chairman emeritus.

Commenting on the appointment Crowe said, "Henry has been an integral part of Landstar since its inception in 1988 and has done an excellent job leading the company forward for many years now. His strategic vision has, and will continue to keep Landstar on the cutting edge as it moves into its next phase, providing supply chain solutions and complete global and domestic transportation services."

In 1994, Gerkens was promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer after beginning his career in Landstar as Vice President and CFO. In 2000, he was elected to the company board and in 2001, promoted to President and CFO. Further, in late 2001 he was promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer.

Gerkens has been severing as President and CEO since his promotion to the role in 2004.

LSTR is currently trading at $39.63, up $0.44 or 1.12% on the Nasdaq.
