Atlanta-based hip-hop producer Shawty Redd has been arrested on first-degree murder charges following an incident at his residence in Hampton, Georgia, on New Years Eve.
The producer, best known for his work on remixes of tracks by Snoop Dogg, Young Jeezy and Gucci Mane, shot and killed an unidentified person following an argument in his home. Redd then turned himself in to Henry Country Police.
The biggest break in Shawty Redd's career came with his production of Snoop Dogg's hit, "Sensual Seduction." The track peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number one on the Hot Dance chart. According to Redd, the track led to a resurgence in Atlanta-style hip-hop.
"In Atlanta, we were already known to do records like this, going back to the days of Kilo Ali and Raheem The Dream," he said. "And everyone said that type of music wouldn't come back in style. By Snoop doing it, he made it okay for everyone else to do it."
Redd is currently being held without bail. His first court appearance is scheduled for January 12.
