Hawaiian Airlines Inc., a unit of Hawaiian Holdings Inc. (HA), said its December 2009 traffic increased to 686.24 million revenue passenger miles or RPMs from 652.84 million RPMS last year. Capacity in December slightly decreased to 820.92 million available seat miles or ASMs from 821.36 million ASMs in the previous year. Load factor for the month rose to 83.6% from 79.5% a year ago.
Fourth-quarter traffic grew to 2.01 billion RPMs from 1.93 billion RPMs in the year-ago quarter. Capacity for the latest quarter slightly declined to 2.38 billion ASMs from 2.39 billion ASMs in 2008. Load factor was 84.4% compared with 80.4% last year.
Year-to-date traffic stood at 8.15 billion RPMs compared with 7.86 billion RPMs in the prior year. Capacity also rose to 9.72 billion ASMs from 9.51 billion ASMs a year earlier. Year-to-date load factor was 83.9% compared with 82.6% in the earlier year period.
