Lauryn Hill made a rare public appearance over the weekend, performing as a headliner at a music festival in New Zealand.
The Grammy Award-winning R&B singer appeared on Saturday at the Raggamuffin Festival in Rotorua. She performed "Doo Wop (That Thing)," her 1998 hit that reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Sean Kingston, Shaggy, Julian Marley, Sly and Robbie, Sola Rosa and Katchafire were among others who performed at the festival, which celebrated reggae music. Fellow Fugees member Wyclef Jean was also supposed to appear but could not make it due to his relief efforts in Haiti.
The appearance was a rare one for Hill, who has been out of the limelight in recent years. The singer canceled a 10-day European tour in July 2009, as well as festival appearances in November 2008 and April 2009 for what she said were "personal reasons," according to Billboard.com.
