Norfolk Southern Corp. (NSC) reported net income for the fourth quarter of $307 million or $0.82 per share, compared to $452 million or $1.21 per share in the year-ago quarter.
Total railway operating revenues for the quarter decreased 16% to $2.11 billion from $2.50 billion in the prior-year quarter.
On average, analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.84 per share, on revenues of $2.12 billion for the quarter. Analysts estimates typically exclude special items.
