Amylin Pharmaceuticals Q4 Loss Narrows - Quick Facts

Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc. (AMLN) announced that its fourth-quarter GAAP net loss was $50.3 million, or $0.35 per share, compared to a loss $105.2 million or $0.76 per share for the same period in 2008.

The company said that prior year results have been adjusted to reflect an accounting change whereby research and development costs that were reimbursed by the Company's collaborative partners are recorded as a reduction of research and development expense. These costs were previously recorded as "Revenues under collaborative agreements."

Non-GAAP operating loss was $17.0 million, compared to $20.2 million for the same period in 2008. Net loss excluding restructuring charges was $44.7 million, or $0.32 per share, compared to $50.3 million, or $0.37 per share for the same period in 2008.

Total revenues were $185.53 million, compared to $185.99 million in the year ago quarter.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report a loss of $0.30 per share on revenues of $219.38 million for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
