Zooey Deschanel will star and executive produce a new series on HBO that is based on the memoir of a famous groupie from the late-1960s and 1970s. HBO announced yesterday that Pamela Des Barres' 1987 book I'm With The Band: Confessions Of A Groupie will be the basis for the pilot, with Deschanel playing Des Barres.
The She & Him singer will produce the series with Tim Gibbons (Curb Your Enthusiasm) and her manager, Sarah Jackson.
Des Barres claims in her book that she slept with some of rock's biggest legends, including Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Keith Moon and Gram Parsons.
Deschanel is also gearing up for the release of her second She & Him album with singer/songwriter M. Ward. The aptly-named Volume Two will be out March 23 through Merge Records.
