Church & Dwight Co. Inc. (CHD) said its fourth-quarter net income attributable to the company increased to $52.78 million or $0.74 per share from $44.23 million or $0.62 per share in the prior year.
Excluding the prior announced restructuring charges of $0.09 per share in 2009 and $0.04 per share in 2008, earnings per share grew 26% to $0.83 per share. On average, 14 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings per share of $0.80 for the quarter. Analysts' estimate typically excludes one-time items.
Also, the company reported a 4% rise in net sales for the fourth quarter to $670.78 million from $644.90 million in the previous year. Ten analysts anticipate revenues of $660.64 million for the quarter.
Additionally, Church & Dwight is now forecasting earnings per share to be in the range of $3.93 - $4.00 in 2010. Fourteen analysts estimate earnings per share of $3.88 for 2010. In 2010, the company anticipates to deliver projected organic sales growth of about 4% - 5%.
