Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke's hearing before the House Financial Services Committee on Wednesday has been postponed due to the inclement weather forecast in Washington, D.C.

Bernanke was scheduled to testify on how the Fed would unwind its liquidity programs implemented during the 2008 financial crisis. The House Financial Services Committee has postponed all of its hearings for the week.

No new date has been set to reschedule the hearing.

Bernanke was recently confirmed to a second term as Fed chairman. He was reappointed by a 70-30 vote in the Senate.

The central bank has come under considerable scrutiny in the wake of the financial crisis, as many lawmakers have criticized the Fed's regulatory policies and blamed them, in part, for leading to the nation's economic woes.

The Fed chief's testimony was not the only appearance by a central bank official postponed this week.

A planned speech by Philadelphia Fed president Charles Plosser scheduled for Wednesday before the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia was pushed back to next week because of the weather.
