The Carpenters guitarist and Motown producer Tony Peluso died last weekend of heart disease. He was 60.
Peluso began his music career in the 1960s, playing with Bobby Sherman and Paul Revere & the Raiders. He joined the Carpenters in 1971, playing on such hits as "Goodbye to Love."
After Karen Carpenter's death in 1983, Peluso signed on as an A&R executive at Motown, where he worked from 1983-1993. While on the label, Peluso produced songs for many stars including Smokey Robinson and Michael Jackson.
Throughout his career, Peluso also worked on recordings by Seals & Crofts, Kenny Loggins, Dave Koz and Boyz II Men, among others. He most recently collaborated with Gustavo Santaolalla on the soundtrack for the film Brokeback Mountain.
Peluso is survived by two sons, Joe and Andrew.
