A series of missile strikes by suspected US drones have killed up to six Islamist militants in Pakistan's volatile tribal region along its border with Afghanistan, reports said on Saturday.
The incident took place in Kurram tribal district which is regarded as a bastion of Islamist insurgents including Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan and other al-Qaeda terror outfits.
Missles fired by the drones thrice struck vehicles and residence of suspected insurgents located within a radius of few kilometers.
An unnamed intelligence official told media that two missiles were fired at two vehicles in Shaheedanoon Dand village at around 11.30 pm local time.
"The vehicles were on patrolling duty. Three militants died in the attack," he said.
Barely two minutes later, another missile struck a residential compound in Badshah Kot inflicting severe damage to the building.
Another drone attack at around 11.35 pm local time damaged a mosque as well as a residential compound killing three people.
A second intelligence official, who also requested anonymity, said the dead militants belonged to the Haqqani outfit, a pro-Taliban group.
Led by Sarajuddin Haqqani, the outfit has its stronghold along Afghanistan's eastern border with Pakistan and the group's top leadership is said to be based deep inside the semi-autonomous tribal areas of Pakistan.
