In response to the hostage situation, Discovery Communications, Inc. (DISCA) issued a statement that all employees and the children from the Discovery Kids Place daycare center are safe.
Earlier, the U.S. police killed a gunman who took three people hostage at Discovery Channel. According to media reports, the suspect was identified as James Lee, who had a history of protesting against Discovery Channel.
David Leavy, Discovery Communications Executive Vice President Global Communications and Corporate Affairs, said, "In coordination with Montgomery County, Md., Police, an evacuation procedure was executed for all persons in the building. The evacuation procedures were handled with professionalism and with safety as Discovery's primary concern,"
