American Airlines, a unit of AMR Corp. (AMR), reported a August load factor of 84.6%, a decrease of 0.7 point versus the same period last year. Traffic increased 3.1 and capacity increased 3.2% year over year. American boarded 8.1 million passengers in July.
The airline said its Augustsystem traffic rose 3.1% to 11.51 billion revenue passenger miles or RPMs from 11.17 billion RPMs in the same period last year.
The airline's Augustsystem capacity was 13.61 billion available seat miles or ASMs, up 3.2% from 13.19 billion ASMs in the prior year period.
System Load factor for August2010 was 84.6%, down 0.1 points from 84.7% in August2009.
In addition, American Eagle reported that its August traffic increased 13.8% year over year as capacity increased 13.2%.
The airline's August System capacity was 1.06 billion seat miles, up 13.2% from 938.18 million seat miles in the prior year period.
August load factor was 73.1%, an increase of 0.4 points from 72.7 in the same period last year.
