FX Cancels 'Terriers,' Explains Timing

FX has canceled its series "Terriers," which starred Donal Logue and Michael Raymond-James as two best friends who become unlicensed private investigators in San Diego County.

The series, from Ted Griffin ("Oceans 11"), executive producer Shawn Ryan ("The Shield") and Tim Minear ("Dollhouse"), ran for 13 episodes but only averaged about 500,000 viewers each week.

FX executive John Landgraf held a press call to explain his decision, since many in the industry claim the timing of the decisions was a little unusual.

"I've really tried to run this channel, this network, in a much more transparent way," Landgraf told reporters, explaining why he made the press call when he did rather than strategically releasing the news on a Friday evening when less people would notice it.

FX PR boss Jon Solberg elaborated on the decision, indicating that it was handled how it was out of respect for executive producers Shawn Ryan and Ted Griffin, the series' stars Donal Logue and Michael Raymond-James, and the thousands of fans who supported the show.

"John does care and felt it was important to provide context for the decision," Solbeg said. "By answering any and all questions about it, even the most ardent fan can have a better understanding why the decision was made."
