U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's spokesperson issued a statement, warning against attacks on the United Nations peacekeeping force in Ivory Coast. The statement noted that Secretary-General is aware about the involvement of the supporters of leader Laurent Gbagbo in the attacks.

On Saturday, armed men in military uniform attacked guards standing at the headquarters of the peacekeeping force in Abidjan. In a separate incident, two military observers were injured by Young Patriots, a group linked with Laurent Gbagbo.

"The Secretary-General reiterates the warning he issued on Friday that any attack on UN forces will be an attack on the international community and those responsible for these actions will be held accountable. Any continued actions obstructing and constricting UN operations are similarly unacceptable", the statement said.

The U.N. Security Council will meet on December 20 to discuss the situation in Ivory Coast and the renewal of UNOCI''s mandate.
